In November 2000, the show’s first billionaire, former garden designer Judith Keppel, sat down, and in April 2001, the show’s second feat, former physics teacher David Edwards.

The chair comes from the collection of the late British media impresario Sir Lou Glade.

He acquired it when it was sold at an auction in 2001, shortly after the Ingram episode was filmed.

Also placed under the hammer is a grade customized dunhill walnut cigar humidor. Glade was rarely seen without a cigar in his mouth, making him a valuable possession.

A box of his Montecristo cigars and a 19th century Louis XV style French office desk are also provided.

Grade died in 1998, but his collection expanded over the decades.

There are 60 items from the collection for sale, with an estimated overall price of £20,000.

“This chair has no intrinsic furniture value and looks like something you’d find in a breakfast bar,” said auctioneer Mark Arum.

“That significance comes from being on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

“It was used in the show’s early series and was used by the first two contestants to win £1 million and Charles Ingram.

“This is one of the most infamous events in television history and it’s really shocking that someone could cheat in such a way.

“Beware of unusual coughs during the auction!”

“We gave a conservative estimate for this chair and hope it sells for more.
