Predatory drug addict beats ‘quiet’ pensioner to death while unpacking at home

A predatory drug addict has been convicted of murder after he beat a pensioner to death while he was shopping at his home.

Insensitive Jay Gallier, 33, visited ‘Quiet’ Barry Johnson at his flat in Dudley, West Midlands, in August 2021.

The 67-year-old’s body was found days later when a loved one came to check on him.

Gallier was found guilty of murder at Crown Court in Wolverhampton today.

A jury heard he used some of his benefits to buy heroin and marijuana.

They were said to have gone around Barry’s building several times before he broke in and committed a heinous crime.

After his death, it is revealed that Barry died of “blunt force” injuries after being hit in the head and neck.

These included part of the lip away from the inside of the mouth and a broken nose.

Blue women’s slippers Gallier was seen stealing from the building’s lobby area and cigarette butts with his DNA on them were also found in the flat.

Barry’s blood-soaked pants are found in the thug’s house and he is arrested.

He has yet to show remorse or reveal why he committed the murder or why he is currently facing life in prison.

Sergeant Neil Hudson, who led the murder investigation, said: “This was a tragic incident involving the needless and violent assault of an elderly man in his home.

“Only Gallier knows why he attacked Mr Johnson that day, and to this day he has shown no remorse for his actions and has offered no explanation for what he has done. Is not …

“This conviction means that a violent individual has been removed from the streets, and we can only hope that Mr. Johnson’s family can take some comfort from the justice that has been served.”
