Nashville school shooting: female shooter kills six

Six people, including three children, were killed in the shooting of a white woman at a private school in Nashville.

The incident happened at a suburban elementary school, Covenant School.

Police said the shooter, who has not yet been named, killed three children and three adults before being shot dead. police.

Shortly before 10:13 a.m., the woman entered the school through the side door and began firing on the second floor.

It is unknown how she gained access to the building. All the doors were locked, police said.

Police arrived at the scene and heard gunshots coming from upstairs. By 10:27 a.m., she was shot dead. She was armed with two assault rifles and a handgun.

Parents were told to collect the children from a nearby church, but no other information was provided.

“I know today is probably the worst day of anyone’s life.

“You can’t tell how much we sympathize,” a Metropolis police officer was heard telling parents, who were waiting for an update at a nearby church.

“Don’t send your children to school thinking that there will be more shootings, especially in this area.

“It’s really overwhelming just hearing it as a parent. Seeing all the parents run up the hill to make sure their kids are okay,” Lisa Devasque told DailyMail.com.

Susan Perkins, 68, told DailyMail.com her daughter and grandson-in-law were at school at the time of the shooting and were unharmed. Her daughter is a communications director and her step-grandson is in sixth grade.

“I talked to my daughter and she was too busy to talk and just said okay,” said a mother in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“I’m just shaking with fear and I’m so sorry that something like this happened,” she said. “I can’t believe three children were killed.”

She described Covenant School as a small, close-knit Christian school where everyone knows and supports each other.

“I never thought my school would end up like this. I would love to see guns disappear from the streets,” Perkins said.

Alison Grippo, 40, told DailyMail.com that she has three surviving children in Covenant schools.

As rumors of the shooting spread, she, like other parents, was escorted to nearby Woodmont Baptist Church. It was set up as a meeting place where children anxiously awaited.

“She said her children, like many others, still talk to investigators.

“We are waiting to be reunited with our children,” Grippo told DailyMail.com. Praise the

The school has about 33 staff and about 210 students.

Many of those students were seen today wearing school uniforms and fleeing the building after the shootings began.

Other schools in the area have been shut down as a precautionary measure, but are not believed to pose a further threat.

Parents are currently meeting at the church next door to the school. Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn was the first to offer condolences.

At a press conference, White House Press Secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said the shooting demonstrated the ongoing need for tougher gun reform.

Speaking at the National League of Cities conference on Monday, First Lady Jill Biden told the audience:

“I am truly speechless. Our children deserve better. We stand with Nashville in our prayers.”

Shooting on Monday is the 129th shoot this year.
