Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated with the new 50p coins coming out next year, Royal Mint announced.
The coin bears the number 70, which represents the number of years of the Queen’s reign in 2022, and her code is surrounded by a zero in the center of the design.
The design has been approved by the Queen and this is the first time a royal event has been celebrated on the caudal side of 50 pence.
Claire McCrennan, director of the Royal Mint’s Commemorative Coin Division, said:
“Royal Mint, 70 days before the Queen’s throne, is pleased to announce the commemorative Platinum Jubilee 50p design ahead of the New Year’s launch.
“In recognition of the milestone, this is the first time a royal milestone has been commemorated with 50p coins and is a worthy celebration to rule the monarch for the longest time in Britain.”
The Royal Mint struck a circulating coin for the Queen throughout her reign and celebrated her royal milestones, including silver, gold and diamond jubilee, with a collection of commemorative crown works.
Coin collectors can register their interest in the Platinum Jubilee 50 Pence Royal Mint, which features a special commemorative front side design.
The bespoke front side will be presented in one of the largest collections created by the Royal Mint in 2022. This includes a commemorative £ 5 crown.
