Parents and partners Team GB star Adam Peaty, Tom Daley and Matty Lee responded to the “great” gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on Monday.
26-year-old Petty won the UK’s first gold medal in the men’s breaststroke 100m final at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
He also sealed his place in history after becoming the first British swimmer to defend the Olympic title.
Petty’s 57.37-second victory time was shy to his own world record of 56.88 seconds, yet he was the fifth fastest in the history of the event.
His mother, Caroline Petty, wrote on social media: We are beyond pride. “
Father Mark Petty told the BBC:
Eirianedd Munro, Peaty’s partner and mother of his son George, is an ITV Good Morning Britain: “There were many sacrifices we had to make, but just seeing him at the Olympics, not to mention earning money, was all worth it.”
Peaty from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, later thanked everyone who “woke up all night to see me.”
He wrote on Twitter: My son and my family for my country. For all those who need a little light. You can get over this. “
The gold rush continued when Tom Daley and Matty Lee won their first Olympic gold medal on the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform.
Daily (27) and Lee (23) outnumbered China by 1.23 points from the Olympic title, with the Russian Olympic Commission in third place.
This is Daily’s third Olympic medal after Daily won bronze medals in London and Rio games in 2012 and 2016, respectively.
Husband Dustin Lance Black praised the victory of the diving duo and wrote on Twitter: So many tears! [Tom Daley] You are the Olympic champion! Congratulations to Tom and Matty Lee! “
Lee’s mother Helen Lee told ITV Good Morning Britain Their victory was “very, very emotional and very exciting.”
Proud father Tim Lee added: The young people were great. It was pretty nervous to see the Chinese, but there was a feeling that we might do it. “
