Passengers’ fury at Euston rail chaos after signal failure blocked all lines out of London transport hub for two hours with people left trapped on carriages and facing huge delays

Euston train chaos has erupted as a signal failure has blocked lines and furious passengers have been left trapped on carriages.

Network Rail said major disruption to and from London is expected until 3.30pm today – as those on trains have been desperately trying to get information after reporting they haven’t moved for nearly half an hour.

The operator originally said: ‘A point failure at London Euston means all lines are blocked. As a result, trains running to/from this station may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes. Major disruption is expected to continue until 13:00.’

About 60,000 fans are trying to get to Tottenham for the NFL game between Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans today – while more than 35,000 are expected at the Emirates Stadium for Arsenal Women’s match against Aston Villa.

Frustrated passengers have been told service will be ending early and trains will no longer stop at some stations.

Some have taken to social media to share their travel troubles, with one writing: ‘An absolute disgrace! First train delayed from Rugby to London Euston. When it turned up we were told to get off at Northampton. Finally got on a later train for us to get to Bletchley to again be told we need to get off as there is no signal to London Euston.’

Another wrote: ‘It seems like every time I leave London Euston to go home, there’s some sort of palaver!’

A third penned: ‘Currently stranded at Tring station as train cancelled to London Euston and no trains in or out of Tring for a few hours.’

Another described the chaos as ‘pure hell’, adding today is ‘the one day I need to be in London for my mates’.

A fifth said: ‘Brilliant end to weekend in London. If it’s not bad enough not seeing Trafalgar Square due to other views, we are stuck at Euston.’

This is a breaking news story. More to follow.
