ASA rejects SMTA claims for Cazoo’s “new car” subscription service

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has rejected the Scottish Automobile Trade Association (SMTA) claim that Kazoo’s subscription service misrepresents “new subscribable vehicles” during pre-registration.

Kazoo said their subscription service is a regulated consumer employment business where consumers hire cars from Kazoo for an agreed period of time.

They said that none of the cars that can be rented through the subscription service can be purchased on the Kazoo website.

Kazoo said pre-registration is also a legal need for Kazoo subscription services. Kazoo was the owner of each car whose subscription became available on the website and remained in that state for the duration of the active subscription.

When purchasing a car for that purpose, Kazoo stated that all subscription cars listed as “new” are always pre-registered due to the legal obligation to register the car.

In the ruling, the ASA said:

The ASA did not detect ads that violated ad regulations and did not uphold SMTA’s allegations.
