More rail workers to go on strike next month after talks break down

More rail workers are set to go on strike next month in a long-running dispute over wages, jobs and conditions after negotiations broke down.

The Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) has announced that its members will go on strike and other forms of industrial action. network rail and 12 railway operators.

The strike will take place in Avanti West Coast On December 13, 14, 16 and 17, members of Network Rail’s Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) and 14 rail operators struck on strike.

Strike action is also scheduled for 17 December at c2c, which serves more than 20 stations between East London and South Essex.

Given that negotiations with Rail Delivery Group have broken down, we have no choice but to continue industrial action.

action Except for strikes in which members only perform contractually required duties, they take place at different times in the run up to Christmas at different companies.

The companies involved are Cross Country, East Midlands Railway (EMR), Great Western Railway (GWR), LNER, Northern, Southeastern, Trans Pennine Express (TPE), Greater Anglia, Govia Thameslink (GTR), West Midlands Trains (WMT), South Western Railway (SWR) and Network Rail (Band 5- 8 and equivalent bands) , and controllers).

Non-strike action will take place from December 13th through the end of the current voting mandate, most of which ends in January.

This form of industrial action effectively means that TSSA members do not cover the duties of other rail workers who may be involved in strike action.

The TSSA said talks with the railway company broke down on Tuesday.

TSSA’s Director of Organization, Luke Chester, said:

“Our unions have had talks over the past three weeks and although some progress has been made, it is still true that ministers will not open space for a negotiated solution.

“Given the breakdown of negotiations with Rail Delivery Group, we have no choice but to continue industrial action. If it continues, further strikes are likely.

“We have been patient, but the government’s refusal to offer employers to settle the dispute will have dire consequences for passengers.

“A meaningful offer to settle this dispute could and should have been made by now, but our members will not back down until that happens.”
