According to new figures, the number of truck drivers in the UK has declined by 53,000 over the last four years.
The National Bureau of Statistics (ONS) has found that the number of British truck drivers has dropped by 17% to 268,000.
With fewer people from the EU, an aging workforce and higher costs in Brexit, the numbers are much smaller and have widespread impact on multiple industries. A shortage of truck drivers has emptied supermarket shelves and is running out of gas throughout the UK.
The government has issued visas to EU truck drivers to address the shortage. We are also changing the requirements for driving tests to encourage more people to participate.
