Nurses hit beyond “shameful” 3% salary increase
Nurses remain furious with salary increases after the government has accepted the recommendations of health care workers who will be rewarded following their dedication during the pandemic.
The Ministry of Health issued a press release confirming a 3% salary increase, dating back to April, hours after the minister was expected to issue a statement at lunch at the House of Commons.
In anticipation of the announcement, about 12 nurses and members of the Royal College of Nursing gathered in the Victoria Tower Garden near the Capitol with placards and banners calling for a 12.5% salary increase.
Kafeelat Adekunle, 55, a community matron at the Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust in London, described the salary increase as “crazy.”
“I’m not happy,” she told PA news agency. “They haven’t heard, that’s the whole problem. It’s trying to stop us from doing industrial activity, keeping us quiet and keeping us silent. I’m going to the government to make us more angry and confident. The contributions from nurses and medical staff during the pandemic are enormous. People died. My colleague died This is really disappointing news. “
