Demands mandatory national wage reporting

According to the survey, only a few large companies report wage gaps between ethnic groups.

Management groups are calling for mandatory ethnic wage reporting to improve workplace equality.

According to the Chartered Institute of Persons and Development (CIPD), only 13 of the FTSE 100 companies currently report wage disparities between ethnic groups, according to the survey.

A specialized agency for talent staff has launched a guide to help employers collect and analyze data.

According to CIPD, few have voluntarily reported ethnic wage inequality, despite Black Lives Matter’s protests leading to racism and organizations condemning discrimination.

Peter Cheese, Chief Executive Officer of CIPD, said:

“It’s nice to see some organizations voluntarily report national compensation, but it’s clear that progress is slow and the reports are very inconsistent.

“Some companies only report data, while others report commitments without sharing the data behind them.”

Taranjit Chana of the GMB union commented:

“Why are only 6% of the NHS’s top jobs and 3% of police chiefs black, Asian and ethnic minority workers?

“The UK has an urgent need for legally mandated ethnic wage inequality to address this widespread inequality.”

A government spokesperson said: “Building a fairer economy means ensuring that British organizations reflect national diversity. The Racial and Ethnic Disparity Commission is independent, including recommendations on national wage reporting. The report was published earlier this year.

“We are reviewing the Commission’s findings on this issue, along with feedback to consultations on this issue and other work, and will eventually respond to the Commission’s report.”

Matthew Fell, CBI’s Head of Policy for the United Kingdom, said:

“Companies want to introduce compulsory ethnic wage inequality reporting, as they do for gender.

“It’s not the right thing to fill the gap. The business case is watertight.”
