Young Vs and A’s museum reopens in East London

The Young V&A, which was once a children’s museum until it closed for renovation three years ago, now has a new look as well as a new name, and the paper is invited to take a sneak peek ahead of its opening to the public. I was.

Aimed at the age group from 0 to 14, there seemed to be as much to keep my 2-year-old son occupied as there were students from nearby schools who came to take advantage of what was on offer. is.

My toddler loved exploring the interactive elements, from foam blocks and spinning sandpits to traditional dollhouses. A particular favorite was the little skatepark model that lets you push and spin a finger-sized skateboard, which older kids might enjoy trying to recreate their favorite tricks.

You’ll also have the chance to explore the museum virtually through specially created Minecraft games and imaginative stages.

About 1,500 items from the V&A’s collection are displayed in cases inside the museum, many of which remind parents of their own youth. There is also a ‘mini-museum’ section where objects are placed at toddler height for even the youngest visitors to enjoy.

V&A Director Tristram Hunt described the Grade II-listed venue as “Britain’s first national museum built with young people and for young people”.

“Children will have their own special space for imagination, play and design. It will be,” he added.

It was created with accessibility and inclusiveness in mind, including ramp and elevator access to the galleries, sensory bags, and changing facilities. Staff are also set to wear badges that indicate the language they speak, making communication more comfortable for international visitors and non-native English speakers.

Young V&A will be open daily from 10am to 5:45pm beginning Saturday, July 1st. Located next to Bethnal Green Underground Station. If visitors require step-free public transportation, it is a short walk or bus ride from Whitechapel Station.
