Eating out? Here’s how UK cities are ranked in food hygiene:

What are you looking for first when you go to a restaurant?Decoration, menu or food Hygiene evaluation? Most of us haven’t actually inspected how hygienic the restaurant is, but it’s probably the time we should. Despite the pandemic, food hygiene authorities continue to inspect restaurants and businesses across the country.

New research by Essential living We investigated whether well-known chain restaurants and takeaways have the highest and lowest hygiene ratings across the UK.

The report revealed that London has the most 1-star hygiene-rated restaurants in the UK. Only 61% of restaurants in London have achieved a 5-star (highest) hygiene rating available from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

More than 2,000 restaurants in London have fallen below 2 stars in hygiene ratings over the past year, accounting for about 6% of all restaurants in London.

Newcastle has emerged as the most hygienic city in the UK, with over 86% of restaurants receiving the highest possible hygiene rating (5 *). Nottingham has 85% of restaurants with 5 * hygiene, Belfast is third in the UK, and just under three-quarters of restaurants have the highest hygiene ratings.

Despite London’s highest 1-star rating, Cardiff ranks lowest in the UK in overall hygiene ratings, with just under 60% of eateries receiving the highest hygiene ratings. Almost 5% of their eateries scored less than 2 on hygiene.
