UK school closures live: Classrooms closed across England again following second night of sub-zero weather conditions

Schools will remain closed today after two consecutive nights of sub-zero temperatures and bad weather hitting the UK.

Children above and below the country told to stay home according to snow Monday – with students cornwallDevon, Gloucestershire, east sussex worst effect.

  • Yellow weather warning issued for Northern Ireland

    The Bureau of Meteorology issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland this evening.

    This is because the region is facing ice and fog as the freezing weather continues this week.

    The warning will go into effect at 5pm tonight and will last until 10am on Tuesday.

  • Planned road closures tonight in the Southeast

    Several roads will be closed in the Southeast this evening as the country continues to face travel disruptions due to snow.

    M3 and M20 junctions 9 to 10 and 9 to 8 will be closed from 9pm.

    However, the A282 is closed from 10pm.

    Temperatures in Aberdeenshire plunged to minus 15.7 degrees Celsius last night as the UK recorded its coldest night ever.

    The Bureau of Meteorology recorded temperatures in Braemar, but other parts of the country also experienced icy cold.

    Bear South East Trunk Roads tweeted that the A702 had a track temperature of -11.3°C and an air temperature of -14.7°C.

    The Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice in northern Scotland is in effect until noon on Monday, while the ice and fog warning for Dumfries and Galloway is in effect until 11am.

    There is also a yellow snow and ice warning in place for northern Scotland from Tuesday noon to Thursday noon.

  • Much of London transport still affected by snow

    The Transport for London website confirms that many of the city’s rail lines are still heavily affected by the snow.

    The Central Line remains partially out of service, causing significant delays. District and overground services are also facing partial suspension.

    Most other lines are operational but continue to face delays.

    Many of the Southeastern Railroads are still experiencing severe delays as a result of today’s cold weather.

    As outlined below, most routes are still out of service, but you may still be able to travel on some limited services that are still available.
