How to upgrade your home

We all deserve to live in a home that we’re proud of. When you walk through the front door, you should slowly start to relax and switch off. Your property is a safe place for you and your family to spend some quality time together. However, after almost two years of intermittent lockdowns, many of us have grown to hate our homes. We have spotted all the cracks, chips and stains on the floors and walls. It’s time to redecorate and create a fresh space for the next chapter.

Here are a few ways you can improve your home.

Add new lighting

Lighting can make a huge difference to the atmosphere of your home. White bulbs and patterned lampshades can make your space feel cold and dated. Invest in some filament light bulbs in a warm yellow shade to make each room feel cosy and welcoming. You could hang a pole above your dining room table and wrap lights around it. The different exposed bulbs will hang down and add an industrial style to the room.

Spruce up the bathroom

Make your bathroom feel like a spa with a comfortable bath and fresh white walls. No one wants to relax in a damp and worn bathroom. Rip out the entire bathroom and start again. Invest in high-quality appliances that will withstand the test of time and sparkle in the light. Create a few cubby holes in the wall for your beauty products, fake plants and a candle or two. Build a separate shower with a waterfall head if you have the space.

Update the heating system

Say goodbye to freezing winters and hello to cosy movie nights. Your heating system is probably outdated if the house is struggling to heat up. Hire a professional to service your boiler and replace it with a newer model if needed. Your property can lose a significant amount of heat through the walls and roof. You need to make sure your insulation is up to scratch and efficiently retains heat.

Freshen up outside

First impressions count, and the outside of your home might need a little work. Tidy up the paintwork, replace the front door and clear away any rubbish lying in the front garden. You could give the patio a power wash and fix any gaps in the windowsill as well.

Add some shelving

You can never have enough storage space. Install some floating shelves on the wall to create more storage space or a beautiful display feature. You could place a hanging plate over the shelf with a few recipe books and trinkets. Shelving is a great solution when you don’t have enough floor space available.

Make your home look its best this year with a few improvements.
