THE ex-girlfriend of paedo rocker Ian Watkins says she is amazed it’s taken lags this long to attack him for his evil crimes.
Jo Mjadzelics, 47, is the person who first alerted cops about the Lostprophets singer’s warped fantasies involving kids.
He was held hostage, beaten and stabbed in the neck by three other lags.
It’s thought they had planned the attack and waited until weekend staffing levels began.
Sources said the siege at HMP Wakefield only ended when a ‘Tornado’ team of specially-trained riot officers hurled stun grenades into the cell to free Watkins from his captors.
Watkins is currently being treated in Leeds General Infirmary.
She had an on-off relationship with Watkins from 2006 after he sought her out on MySpace and confessed his warped sexual fantasies involving young children.
Jo tried to warn the authorities about him for four years but was repeatedly ignored.
She contacted police over and over between March and May 2012 about an indecent image of a child the disgraced singer sent her.
She took her laptop to Doncaster Police Station three times during that period asking for help from officers but was not taken seriously.
Jo herself was taken to court on child pornography charges in 2015 but was cleared by a jury after they accepted her account that she was trying to trick Watkins into revealing his crimes.
Speaking in 2017, she said: “From day one, the police treated me like some obsessed fan, like I was crazy.
“They thought ‘let’s not listen to her, let’s not believe her – let’s trust the nice pop star instead.
“It’s been years of screaming until I was blue in the face, of knocking on police doors, of begging for someone to believe me, of banging my head against a brick wall.
“When he was finally charged it hit me like a cannonball. I started thinking that if they’d listened to me, could he have gone on to commit those sickening crimes?”
After her court case in January 2015, Ms Mjadzelics said she “went through hell” because police did not properly investigate Watkins.
He was jailed for 35 years in 2013 for 13 offences against children, including the attempted rape of a baby.
His two co-defendants, the mothers of children he abused, were caged for 14 and 17 years.
Mr Justice Royce said during his sentencing the case broke “new ground” and “plunged into new depths of depravity”.
In 2019, he was convicted of having a banned mobile phone in prison – and had another 10 months added to his sentence.
He used the device to communicate with scores of warped female fans from his cell.
The phone was found after an ex-girlfriend tipped off jail bosses.
Watkins, whose band sold more than 3.5 million albums, filmed himself committing sex acts on a baby boy the day after Lostprophets final album Weapons was released.
Wakefield was originally built as a prison in 1954 although many of the buildings date from the Victorian era.
An ultra-secure unit, the first of its kind in the UK, was built in 2001 and designed to house some of Britain’s most dangerous criminals.
The prison contains an underground glass box where murderer Robert Maudsley, dubbed Hannibal the Cannibal, has spent 16,500 consecutive days in isolation.
In Channel 5’s documentary HMP Wakefield: Evil Behind Bars, it was revealed that sex offenders are seen as the “lowest form of life” in the prison with one contributor on the programme saying the inmates were the “dregs of society”.
It is not the first time inmates at the prison have attacked those who have committed crimes against children.
