I found a COCKROACH inside my Sainsbury’s meal deal sandwich – when I complained they told me to just take another one

A SAINSBURY’S customer claims she found a dead cockroach inside her meal deal sandwich.

Maren Baker, 18, works in Boots and was looking forward to her meal deal when she bought it from the Sainsbury’s Local in Golders Green, London, last Friday.

She said: “I put my headphones in and walked straight to Sainsbury’s, as I usually do, to purchase my lunch.

“I always get the same thing when I go there, a Sainsbury’s BLT sandwich, crisps and juice.”

She added: “I headed back to my shop, my stomach rumbling and sat down ready to eat.”

Maren said she was shocked to then find a cockroach in the sandwich.

“As I’m carefully taking out one I notice a small, black part of the bread,” she said.

“Initially, I thought it was a rotten part of the lettuce however upon closer inspection, I realised what it was – a cockroach.”

She said she was left feeling disgusted and “nearly threw up”.

“I  felt my stomach turn inside out as it lay there lifeless in my sandwich,” she said.

“It was one of the most disgusting and unhygienic things I had ever experienced.

“It made my skin crawl and itch at the sheer sight of it.”

Maren said she went back to Sainsbury’s and and showed the manager the dead cockroach.

However, Maren claims the manager told her to simply take another sandwich.

Maren said: “To say I was shocked would be a complete understatement, why on earth would I want another one of your sandwiches.”

Maren said she eventually got a refund but she was not happy with the customer service she received.

She said: “She was not apologetic and did not sympathise with me at all.

“I can understand it is not her fault however it was found in her store so I would expect an apology and a contact number for me to address this situation with someone higher in the company.

Later she added: “She gave me my money back only for the sandwich and apologised only once.”

Maren says she phoned Sainsbury’s customer service and received a £10 voucher.

“I can safely say I will never purchase from Sainsbury’s again and will most definitely never eat another one of their sandwiches again,” she added.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We have apologised to the customer and are investigating this unpleasant find.”
