Iceland distributes free food to shoppers to prevent waste of goods

Frozen food retailers have said that £ 500,000 worth of food is offered to customers each year through a “free on the last day of life” scheme.

This process does not require any additional action by the customer. If the item you ordered remains and is dated on the same day, it will be scanned, labeled and added to your shopping cart as usual.

Customers will be informed of the free item prior to delivery and will not be charged the original price.

Chilled, fresh, cakes, bread and morning goods are all included in the scheme.
