Increase in bike thefts triggers police alert

Police have issued alerts for 120 motorcycle thefts in three months in Hertfordshire.

Hartsmere was one of the areas specifically targeted during this period, according to officers.

Police believe most of the thefts were “opportunistic” thefts and most of the motorcycles were unprotected at the time.

A security message issued to residents read: “Hertfordshire Police Department has asked motorcyclists to secure their bikes following an increase in thefts in recent months.

“More than 120 motorcycles have been stolen across the county in the last three months, with most crime occurring in the Welwyn Hatfield, Watford, Hartsmere and St Albans areas.”

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police added:

Bicycle owners should secure their vehicles in a number of ways, including locking their vehicles, using bicycle security marked with a vehicle identification number, and using designated motorcycle parking lots with stands and security loops. I can.
