Lewis Hamilton was booed by fans attending the Hungarian Grand Prix after taking pole position ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. The F1 World Champion bumped into the crowd and said he would fuel him to win tomorrow.
After talking to Verstappen and Bottas, Johnny Herbert tried to calm his fans by interviewing Hamilton.
Hamilton was crawling on the out lap in front of Verstappen and Sergio Perez, who did not cross the line on the last flying lap.
The 36-year-old cleared 0.5 seconds after his first effort in the third quarter, and the driver didn’t get much better in the final run.
Hamilton wasn’t worried about the fans booing, and he said he had never felt so great.
Hamilton said: “The qualifying was a great lap. Everyone, including Valtteri, showed great teamwork and tried to move the car forward.
“They don’t leave stones for the factory guys. I’ve never felt so great with boos. [from the fans], I don’t care about it.
“Soft tires are worth 5 meters on turn one. It was amazing to see everyone in the top 10 in soft except us.
“I hope the weather is good for everyone, enjoy the sun and say it’s safe.”
Hamilton is enthusiastic about winning tomorrow and leading the drivers’ championship into the F1 summer vacation.
The Britons have won his eighth world title and are aiming to move away from the legendary Michael Schumacher.
Mercedes teammate Bottas is with him, giving a tail gunner in front of both Red Bulls in the second row.
Pierre Guthrie and Lando Norris are in the third row, behind Charles Leclerc and Esteban Ocon.
Two former world champions, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, conclude the top ten.
