A new jab is being rolled out to breast cancer patients in the United Kingdom, reducing people’s time in the hospital to just five minutes.
This treatment, called Fesgo, will be available to breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, including patients with HER2-positive breast cancer.
This type of cancer accounts for 15 percent of all breast cancer cases.
Minimize the risk of infection
NHS England said reducing the time cancer patients need to spend in hospitals from two and a half hours to just five minutes reduces the risk of Covid-19 infection “significantly.”
The NHS approval of Phesgo is “great news” for thousands of women and can benefit from “faster and kinder” treatments.
According to the NHS England, more than 3,600 new cancer patients will benefit from treatment each year.
Regarding the NHS deployment, Baroness Delyth Morgan, Chief Executive Officer of the charity Breast Cancer Now, said: The NHS is already in unprecedented tension with Covid-19. “
How does the treatment work?
Fesgo is a fixed-dose combination of pertuzumab and trastuzumab, both previously given to patients as separate intravenous injections.
The drug is used in combination with chemotherapy to treat all stages of HER2-positive breast cancer and takes only 5 minutes to prepare and administer.
According to the NHS England, this is a significant reduction compared to two injections, which can take up to two and a half hours to administer to a patient.
Polarum, 51, was one of the first patients diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014.
A housewife from Newton-le-Willows in St. Helens said: You can stop the shield. “
“I’m currently using a combination of drugs that takes about an hour and a half to two hours to administer everything together, and I have to go to the hospital to take them every three weeks. ..
“Getting five minutes of treatment means more time to go for a walk to garden, knit, or help your daughter practice cricket skills. That’s real life. It changes. “
