The Merseyrail train derailed and hit the bridge at Kirkby station.
The Merseyside Fire Rescue Team said in a statement:
“The crew was warned at 7:01 pm and at 7:05 pm on-site. Currently, two fire trucks and search and rescue equipment are in attendance.
“This incident involves a train that derailed and hit a bridge.
“Passengers have been evacuated from the train and are believed not to be injured.
“The train driver is backed by the train and is currently being evaluated by North West Ambulance Service ambulance personnel.
“The Merseyside Police are also present. The case is ongoing.”
Merseyrail said: “Due to an accident in Kirkby, the Kirkby line service is having a late meeting and will start and end in Rice Lane.
“There are no reports of injuries and emergency services are on site. Rails are being replaced between Rice Lane and Kirkby.”
