Live update when a large crowd clashes with Newport police at the scene of human death

Police are addressing a major turmoil in Newport tonight within 24 hours of the investigation into the murder of Ryan O’Connor’s death.

In the scene in Newport’s Alway district tonight, police officers are trying to conquer a crowd of at least 50 people, and conflicts have broke out among some of the crowds, increasing police presence. Images and videos from the scene appear to show one man on the ground and another man escaping before being wrestled on the floor by several police officers.

The two men are also seen grabbing each other and fighting before being detained by the police. While others can be seen standing on the wall and running away, others can be heard screaming between the sections of the crowd. There are several police officers on the scene.

It is understood that people have gathered to pay homage to Mr. O’Connor, but some of the crowd appear to be violent. An emergency service was called to Balfrode in Al-Ai around 9:05 pm Thursday after the man was found to be unconscious and unresponsive.

Police officers attended with paramedics from the Welsh ambulance service who declared a 26-year-old man dead.
He was later locally named Ryan O’Connor, and compliments from residents, family and friends have already been made at the scene of the incident.

After an investigation into the murder case began and he was arrested on murder charges, five men, three men aged 18 and 19, and two boys aged 17, are currently being detained by police.
