Underground RMT members have been embroiled in a heated dispute with Transport for London over employment, pensions and working conditions.

The union said in a statement on Tuesday that continuation of the strike action was supported by 96% of union members who voted. Turnout was 56.5%.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: “We salute all members of London Underground for giving us continued industrial influence at the negotiating table.

“TfL cannot simply continue to hope that this conflict will end, and the government, which has significantly cut funding to the London transport budget, also bears great responsibility for this continued impasse.

“London Underground workers want a negotiated settlement and are ready to stage more strikes over the next six months to make that happen.

This is breaking news. More to come.
