Man, 35, charged with assaulting Arsenal’s Aaron Lumsdale in North London derby

Hackney native Joseph Watts has been charged with assault, trespassing into areas adjacent to a playing area, and assault by throwing a missile into a football playing area, in violation of the Football (Crime) Act 1991 .

He is scheduled to appear in Highbury Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

London’s Metropolitan Police said a football investigation team had cooperated with Tottenham Hotspur’s investigation.

Arsenal’s number one appeared to be attacked by a man in the crowd as he went to collect his gloves behind goal at the final whistle of Arsenal’s 2-0 overall victory.

Man-of-the-match Ramsdale made a big save to hold off Son, Kane and Ryan Sessegnon during the match before clashing with Tottenham striker Richarlison after celebrating the victory.

As a result, Spurs remained in fifth place, while Mikel Arteta’s side extended their lead at the top of the Premier League.

The PFA also condemned the incident.

“These incidents happen all too often. Players have a right to be safe at work,” the PFA said.

“We hope that the laws and regulations are properly enforced to protect players when they are attacked.

“As a players union, we are treating this as a priority.
