Our cat was found six years after it went missing…but it’s 10,000 miles away, British family says

A family in England shares how relieved they were to find their missing cat after six years, but has now moved over 10,000 miles away.

The Gregory family was devastated when tabby cat Tallulah went missing from their home in Kentish Town, north London, in 2017.

Lisa Gregory, husband James, and three children Mia, Jed, and Ostin mourned the loss, but moved to Sydney, Australia a year later.

But Lisa, 45, was shocked when she received an email from the RSPCA saying Tallulah had been found.

She said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“Look, I woke up with an email from the RSPCA saying they had our cat.

“Tallulah has a microchip implanted and they tried to contact me on the registered phone number but now have a different number.

“They even left a note over the door, but obviously we don’t live there anymore.

“I still couldn’t believe it and asked them to send me a picture. Of course it’s Tallulah.”

Mia, 15, Jed, 13, and Austin, 12, are parents to Lisa and James, 57, who got her from their sister, Diana.

The missing 18-month-old tabby was found lost in the immediate vicinity of his family’s old home in north London.

She added: “We had three young children and she was truly loved by all.

“She was a fun kitten that kids could pick her up.

“But she had a very big appetite and one day she didn’t come home.

“I think she was being fed by someone else. I think they kept her and didn’t let her out.

“I did everything I could, handing out flyers, knocking on neighbors’ doors, seeing the vet.

“Meanwhile, we were making plans to take her to Australia.

“We mourned the loss and speculated that she was missing or dead. We didn’t know.

“It was sad for the children. She was a beautiful family pet.”

The former Pat’s family, who moved to Australia in 2018, are now facing £2,000 bills and will have to wait a year for her to come and live with them.

Tallulah needed a blood test and had to wait a while for the results before being quarantined.

“I’m still undecided,” Lisa said.

“She is now 7 and a half years old and the whole process of getting a cat to Australia can take up to 12 months.

“It’s a lot of money, about £2,000, and she’ll be eight and a half years old by the time he gets her.”

Another option is to live with Diana, who told me where she is from this weekend.

“We’ll reconnect on FaceTime and decide what’s best for her.

“RSPCA has been very helpful.

“She was a beautiful cat and warmed the hearts of the staff there.”
