Camden motorcyclist Reyhan Mir dies after police chase

Reyhan Mir, 30, formerly known as Aramin Kazi, was spotted near the intersection of Commercial Road and Burdett Road in Limehouse at approximately 2:20 am on March 20 when the motorcycle he was riding crashed. After hitting a curb, he crashed into a handrail and died.

The police were chasing the bike because it wouldn’t stop.

A Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer administered first aid, but Miah died on the spot.

A post-mortem examination took place on March 22, and an inquest was officially started and postponed.

A 29-year-old man who was also riding a motorcycle was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

Mia’s death is being investigated by the Independent Police Action Service (IOPC).

The case was forcibly referred by the Metropolitan Police Department due to the police involvement prior to the crash.

Police watchdogs dispatched investigators to the scene on the morning of the crash, following police post-incident procedures.

Officers are gathering evidence such as body-worn videos, dashcams, and CCTV footage of the area, as well as statements from officers.

An IOPC spokesperson said: “At this stage, all police officers are being treated as witnesses.

“Just prior to the crash, we can confirm that MPS officers activated the vehicle’s warning device after the motorbike driver was unstoppable by the police.

“Cops briefly tracked the bike and after a while the bike crashed.”

IOPC Regional Director Amanda Lowe said: “This was a tragic incident that sadly took the life of a young man.

“Given the deaths of people following incidents involving police pursuits, it is important that an independent investigation is conducted to examine the actions and decision-making of the officers involved.

“We have reached out to Mia’s family to explain our role and our thoughts are with them, his loved ones and all those affected by his death. .”
