North Wales is set to be as hot as Istanbul as former hurricane thumbs bring tropical air

North Wales will be as hot as Istanbul this week as former hurricanes bring tropical air to the region.

Forecasters predict that temperatures could rise to about 21 degrees Celsius this week. This is similar to what was expected in Turkish cities.

However, the heavy rains and gusts seen in North Wales earlier this week may not be entirely behind us. Meteorological systems also bring wind and rain.

Alex Deakin, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said that as hurricane thumb wreckage drifts into the North Atlantic, it will affect our weather.

He said the low-voltage system was “slowly pulled apart from Tuesday night to Wednesday.”

He states: “There are more fronts waiting on the wings, but this uplift, this high-pressure ridge that makes most of Wednesday’s sunny days, will also ease the wind.

“For many, it dries with some sunlight on Wednesday until the next meteorological system brings cloud and rain outbreaks in Northern Ireland and northern Scotland, and perhaps late in parts of Wales and southwest England. It’s bright.

“But it is generally a sunny day for many, and it feels a little warmer, with temperatures probably rising to 17 or 18 degrees Celsius throughout the southeast.”

But the next meteorological system will bring strong winds and rain, and mild temperatures, he said.

He states: “This has something to do with Hurricane Sam. It’s no longer a hurricane at this stage, but a fairly large cyclone slowly rises towards Iceland and the front is approaching northwest.

“But because it’s a tropical system, it involves tropical air, which will bring warmth day and night.”

He said, “After a cold start on Wednesday, we promise a very gentle start on Thursday,” but he also warned that there would be a heavy shower spell.

He said warm air meant that temperatures could reach teens to twenties again on Friday.
