Economic Minister Gordon Lions today advised those who have not yet applied for a local spending card to apply as soon as possible.
The online portal and associated telephony services will end on Monday, October 25th. After this date, you will not be able to apply for a £ 100 prepaid Spend Local card.
With just one week left, the minister said: “The response to the high street scheme has been great, and retail, hospitality and services are beginning to benefit from the extra spending it brings. In just a few days before the portal closes, about 90% of qualified people I applied for a Spend Local card.
“I would like to encourage people who have not yet applied for a prepaid £ 100 Spend Local card to apply now through nidirect’s online portal.
“By applying for, receiving and using the card, we will support the local shops, hospitality and other services most affected by the financial impact of Covid-19.”
Once the applicant receives the card, he or she must verify the card via a computer-operated telephone system or text message and make the first payment using a personal identification number (PIN) before using it for contactless payment.
The Spend Local Card will be accepted by all participating companies in Northern Ireland until November 30th. It cannot be used online, for gambling, or for some financial and legal services.
“It’s only a few days before the portal closes, and my message to those who haven’t applied for a local spending card yet is to apply now and spend locally,” he added. ..
