Outrage as Olivia Pratt-Korbel killer’s legal aid tops £220k amid jail term appeal

THE killer of Olivia Pratt-Korbel has seen his taxpayer-funded legal aid top £220,000 — and finds out today whether his jail term will be cut.

Gangster Thomas Cashman, 34, shot the nine-year-old through the front door of her home in Liverpool last year as he chased a target.

He sparked fury when he refused to appear in the dock for sentencing.

Cashman was given a minimum of 42 years but is making a second attempt to get that cut.

Today’s Court of Appeal hearing is set to add tens of thousands to the bill.

Tory MP Nigel Mills said: “It feels like this is just a gravy-train of legal aid.

“These appeals are a disgrace and the taxpayer will be funding them.

“A jury took a proper look at this case and so did the judge and he has been given a very appropriate sentence.

“And let’s not forget he was a coward and didn’t even attend his own sentencing hearing.”

Cashman denied charges including murder but was convicted after a three-week trial.

The Ministry of Justice said the legal aid cash went to lawyers “so he could be imprisoned for his crimes”.
