The next few months will be appealing to Charles Spencer as the ninth Earl Spencer marks his late sister, Princess Diana60th year.
The Welsh princess celebrated her groundbreaking birthday on July 1st of this year, and her brother decided to commemorate that day’s life.
In honor of this opportunity, Charles decided to host the 2021 Legacy Awards on the grounds of his childhood family home, the Althorpe House.
The award is part of the Diana Awards organization, which was established 22 years ago to honor young people who have selflessly improved the lives of others.
Prince Harry and Prince William followed in the footsteps of their mothers and awarded them at the first Legacy Awards of 2017 at St. James’s Palace.
The Legacy Awards are the highest awards young people can receive for their actions in humanitarian activities and social change, and this year’s ceremony will recognize 20 winners.
The event will take place on December 9th on the grounds of the Althorp House, where Charles, Diana, and their two sisters Sarah and Jane grew up.
Prior to the ceremony, CBE Tessie Ojo, CEO of the Diana Awards, said in a statement: “The home of Princess Wales, who hosts the Legacy Awards at Diana, is particularly touching to commemorate her 60th birthday.
“It is even more important for us to pay homage and celebrate in a year when the youth’s lives are disrupted by the pandemic, but to invest in young people around the world who have changed the lives of their communities through selfless pioneering efforts. . “”
Diana died on August 31, 1997, at the age of 36, after being injured in a car accident at the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris.
At the first Legacy Awards four years ago, her eldest son William looked back on the positive social changes brought about by the activist mother.
He states: “This summer has been 20 years since my mother died. She has done a lot in her life. From helping to break the stigma about AIDS, to fighting landmines and helping the homeless, she I have touched the lives of millions of people.
“But the truth is that she was only 36 years old and was taken a little older than I am today. But, of course, we can’t know what her mother was doing.
“But in a sense, Harry and I feel that our mother lives on in a myriad of compassionate and courageous actions that inspire others.”
Greeting the winners, he continued. “Today we are sitting here with just 20 extraordinary young people doing just that. We are all too accustomed to talking about the youth’s lack of connection with their communities and families. This is simply not true, as our mother did in her. These 20 young people are just the tip of the iceberg. We all celebrate what today’s generation has achieved. is needed.”
