Camilla, who has hitherto been called the Queen’s consort, will be sent to more than 2,000 guests and will be billed equally in the ornate medieval-style invitations unveiled Tuesday.
The new title is another step in the remarkable transformation of the woman once ridiculed as the Homewrecker for her role in the breakdown of the marriage of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.
Charles and Camilla met long before the future king married Diana in 1981, and their relationship continued during their tumultuous marriage. As such, Camilla became an object of contempt among many of Diana’s fans, who gathered around the princess when her marriage fell apart.
But Camilla has captivated the public with her warmth and down-to-earth humor since marrying Prince Charles in 2005. “Queen” when Charles became King.
Camilla will be crowned with her husband at Westminster Abbey on May 6.
The palace released some details about the coronation on Tuesday, saying the 9-year-old prince georgethe second eldest son to the throne, the King will be one of four pages of honors to attend the monarch during the service.Camilla will also be on page four.
The eight young pages are friends or close relatives of Charles and Camilla’s family and wear celebrity robes during the day.
The coronation invitation incorporates the Green Man’s ancient motif, paying tribute to the monarch’s record of helping nature and the environment.
The Green Man “is an ancient figure in English folklore, a symbol of spring and rebirth and a celebration of a new reign,” the palace said.
“Craded with natural foliage, the Green Man shape is composed of oak, ivy, hawthorn leaves and flowers that symbolize Britain.”
The design was created by heraldic artist and manuscript illuminator Andrew Jamieson and will be printed on recycled cards with gold leaf details.
