Reckoning was written by Bafta writer Neil McKay, who previously wrote the award-winning Fred West drama Appropriate Adult.

The miniseries are directed by Sandra Goldbacher and produced by ITV Studios. It will air on the BBC on a future date reported to be either 2022 or 2023.

Steve previously defended his decision to play Saville in the drama.

He told the BBC in September when his participation in the show was announced:

“Neil McKay wrote an intelligent script that is sensitive to horrific stories. It needs to be told, no matter how miserable.”

The BBC also defended the decision to portray the lives of vulgar sexual abusers in a new drama.
