Here’s how to keep yourself and others safe in hot weather, according to UKHSA:
- Check your family, friends, and neighbors who may be at higher risk of getting sick, and ask them to do the same for you if you’re at higher risk.
- Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and what to do if you or someone else gets heat stroke.
- Avoid the sun during the hottest hours of the day, from 11am to 3pm.
- If you plan to do physical activity (such as exercising or walking the dog), plan to do it during cooler times of the day, such as in the morning and evening.
- Keep the house cool by closing the windows and curtains in the rooms that get the sun.
- If you do go out, cover yourself with suitable clothing, including a suitable hat and sunglasses, seek shade, and apply sunscreen regularly.
- Drink plenty of fluids and limit your alcohol intake.
