The Met Office lists the first storm of the season as Britain is set to be hit by a wind of 80mph.

The Met Office has named it the first storm of the season as Britain is expected to be hit by winds of up to 80mph.

Storm Irwen appears to bring very strong winds and colds from Friday to Saturday, and most of Wales is covered with yellow warnings.

According to the forecasting service, travel and infrastructure disruptions may occur in the coming days and warnings will be issued.

The warning states: “Gusts reach 55-65 mph in many coastal areas with the highest gusts in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, southwest England and northeast England, with gusts exceeding 65 mph in some areas. Expected.

“The wind slowly begins to soften during the day, in Scotland, and in northern England.”


Most of northern Scotland also has amber warnings against the wind.

There are two weather warnings in Wales. One is Friday and the other is Saturday.

Friday warning covers Carmarthenshire,Ceredigion,Conwy,Denbighshire,Flintshire,Gwynedd,Anglesey,Nice Port Talbot,Pembrokeshire,Powys,Swansea and Wrexham. Saturday’s warning covers the whole country.

The snow that accompanies the storm is expected to fall only on high ground or in lowlands as sleet.

Alex Deakin, a forecaster for the Met Office, said:

“When combined with cold air, snowfall can occur. It’s lively later in the week. Cyclones can be rainy or windy, but very strong when they pass through the North Sea. The wind may blow.

“This fall is something I haven’t seen so far. On Saturday, there will be very strong winds, first through the north and then across almost every region.”

The Wales name Arwen means “noble maiden” and is also the name of the elf princess in The Lord of the Rings of Tolkien.Other Welsh names included in List of storms This year is Gladys and Olwen.
