UK weather forecast: Brits face weekend washout with MORE heavy rain & floods after storm Ciarán & 100mph wind

BRITS are set to face MORE heavy rain this weekend after Storm Ciarán brought flooding and 100mph winds today.

The Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning on Saturday covering large parts of the south east of England.

The notice is in force from 3pm until midnight and forecasters predict “frequent heavy showers, along with gusty winds, are likely to cause travel disruption and flooding”.

There is already a similar alert for rain in place covering northwestern areas of Scotland that will stay in place until 6pm tomorrow.

It comes as Storm Ciarán battered the UK last night and thousands of Brits woke up to chaotic scenes this morning.

After arriving at around 6pm on Wednesday evening, gales rapidly picked up and reached 98mph along exposed areas of the south east coast line.

A red warning came into place in Jersey last night, with 40 people evacuated from their homes already this morning.

A mum in St Clements, one of the worst affected areas, was horrified when wind gusts smashed her window in as she slept next to her baby.

The terrifying moment was captured on Jessica O’Riley’s baby monitor, as reported by the BBC.

She said: “Something didn’t seem right, then the windows just smashed in, I grabbed [my daughter] and got out the room.

“I think I just thought ‘my baby’s in danger, I need to get out’ and ran down the stairs.”

Other residents nearby were shocked to find golf ball sized hailstones batter their homes.

St Helier-based Carl Walker, the chairman of Jersey’s Consumer Council, said: “The noise of the wind was just incredible and quite frightening. It was like a scene from a disaster movie.”

Another elderly local described the sound of her windows being blown it as “a sudden explosion like a bomb”.

Earlier today the Met Office raised the alarm and issued a ‘danger to life’ warning as fierce winds reached 104mph.

Meanwhile, over 300 schools were closed this morning amid fears for student safety.

And, thousands were left without power in Cornwall, as brutal winds hit Cornwall.

The National Grid said that 8,500 homes in the area were cut off from their supply his morning.

Elsewhere it is understood round 16,000 households are dealing with power outages, an Energy Networks Association spokesman told The Sun.

There are still more than 80 flood warnings still in place across the UK as the affects from the storm continue to be felt.

Plus, a popular holiday park has been wiped out by Storm Ciarán as static homes were ripped apart and guests forced to evacuate.

Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, in Dorset, descended into chaos this morning as holiday homes were dragged into the sea.

Another caravan park in Tenby, south Wales was also evacuated after it flooded this morning.

P&O Ferries have also cancelled all services from Dover and Calais today amid extreme wind and rain.

The company said they will only resume journeys when “it is safe to do so.”

“Due to Storm Ciaran, our services are suspended until further notice,” it said. 

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”
