Rich Premier Micheál Martin Britain and the EU said it was time to “turn the corner” about the damage done to the next relationship Brexit

New talks between Britain’s Secretary of State for Exiting the EU David Frost And Vice-President of the European Commission Maroš Chef Chovic Expectations have risen for a breakthrough in the Northern Ireland Protocol deadlock in Brussels on Friday.

Martin said both sides need to work together to get out of conflict and tackle serious issues such as climate change.

At a press conference of the British-Irish Council in Cardiff, I asked the Prime Minister why the relationship between the UK and the EU was so poor, five years after Brexit.

He said the “fundamental reason” was Brexit’s “historical nature” and the length of time Britain was an EU member state.

“Inevitably, adjustments and changes will take a long time,” Martin said.

He added: So the macro geopolitical issue is that the European Union and the United Kingdom need to work together to tackle major issues that affect the planet.

“At Cop26, we saw that evidence. I thought it was provided by the UK Government with excellent organizations and hosts. The US, European Union and UK Government partnerships on climate change are in the direction of travel. I believe in sex.

“It is a spirit that should inform our approach in terms of a lasting constructive relationship between Europe and the United Kingdom in the future.

“I believe that the first immediate step in that direction is to resolve issues related to the operation of the Protocol, so we are all in order to resolve these issues comprehensively and permanently. In addition, energy should be directed toward the next stage.

“If we can do that, I think we can develop a stronger, more proactive and constructive relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom that is urgently needed given the global trends.”
