A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to the scene at around 22:20 on Tuesday 28 February following reports of a man being stabbed while riding a bus on Oxford Street.

“Police were present and found a 25-year-old man with serious injuries.

“He was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service with life-threatening injuries.

“There is a crime scene and part of Oxford Street remains closed to traffic.

“Additional police officers are in the area. No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

The latest knife attack comes a day after three young people were taken to hospital after being stabbed by three people in the eastern capital.

According to The Sun, police and London ambulance services were called to Popeyes Takeaway in Romford, where a brawl broke out around 5:30pm on Monday.

A group of boys in hooded coats were reportedly seen before the fistfight began with punches, people being thrown to the floor and others being beaten using chairs.

Three teenagers aged 15, 16 and 17 were found with stab wounds, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Figures released in December showed the Metropolitan Police responded to 13,405 knife-related cases in just 12 months.

According to crime investigation data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, between October 2021 and June 2022, 49,991 nonfatal knife crimes were recorded.

This equates to 136 incidents each day.

During that period, knife crimes recorded by the Metropolitan Police increased from 10,605 to 11,232, a rate of 125 per 100,000 population.
