Rescuers were finally able to pull him out of the water at 8:25 p.m. in the dark using a basket suspended from a helicopter.
According to the Coast Guard, he was suffering from hypothermia and dehydration, but was able to be identified as the missing man.
That was after a tanker spotted a man (name not given) reeling in the water earlier in the evening.
He went missing on November 24 after falling from the Carnival Valor cruise ship after drinking on deck.

The Coast Guard said he suffered from hypothermia, shock and dehydration, but is in a stable condition.
They also revealed what he said was the man who disappeared overboard, but were unable to reveal how he fell into the sea.
He also gave them his name, but it has not been made public. The man was airlifted to New Orleans and is being treated at a hospital.

The man was last seen at a bar in Carnival Valor with his sister before leaving to use the restroom around 11 p.m. Wednesday and did not return.

“I haven’t been able to confirm when it entered the water, so it’s just a guess.” [that] At any point after Wednesday, he could have entered the waterway,” Gross said. CNN.

The man was spotted by another vessel and picked up by a helicopter at 8:25 p.m. about 20 miles south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana.
It is unknown how long he spent at sea. The water temperature near New Orleans is about 70 degrees.
Gross said the rescue mission was complicated “given the time lag between when he was last seen and when the Coast Guard was notified.”
They sent an urgent message to all sailors in the Gulf and “launched all available resources” including small boats, helicopters and planes covering a 200-mile “active search” area.
“Time was of the essence,” Gross told CNN.
Carnival supported his family while he was missing. His family remained on the cruise ship, and Gross spoke with them.
Over the course of his 17-year career, Gross said the mission “is unlike any mission I’ve been on.”
“I think this will blow normalcy out of the water here,” Gross told the outlet.
“This is one of the longest Thanksgiving miracles I’ve heard.”

Mike Anderson, who was a passenger on the ship, said he saw cruise staff looking for the man and heard an announcement about the missing person.
‘[I] I noticed that the guards started searching the boat for photos of missing people [passenger] on their phone,” he told CNN.
Carnival told DailyMail.com in a statement on Friday:
The ship will sail to Progreso on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula before returning to the United States on Monday.
Our five-day cruise started in New Orleans and reached Cozumel by the third day. The next day, passengers visit another port before returning to Louisiana.
Earlier this year, a 32-year-old woman, jumped off the ship after escaping security.
Footage shows the Carnival Valor’s three guards holding the distraught woman’s arms behind her back. Despite prior claims from her passengers, she was not handcuffed.
After an alleged hot tub incident, she was heard yelling the name “Alicia” as security guards climbed the stairs and helped her off the pool deck.
Shortly after being escorted off deck, the 32-year-old woman allegedly escaped guards and jumped into the sea from the 10th floor of the ship.

Her jump was not captured on video, but a passenger told Fox 8 that she hit the side of the boat before hitting the water first.
Shocked passengers were seen running to the edge of the ship, while the crew threw life preservers and flares to mark their position in the water. Passengers claim the woman went missing soon after.
