Drivers urge Labour to end its ‘war on motorists’ in cheeky conference stunt
DRIVERS today demanded Labour end its “war on motorists” with a cheeky conference stunt.
People heading to the Liverpool get-together were greeted with billboards highlighting the party’s record on road-users.
The Alliance Of British Drivers circled the venue with vans slamming Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ expansion and the controversial 20mph zones in Labour-run Wales.
One said “Just Stop Labour’s War On Motorists”, while another said the low-emissions zones were “just the start”.
The Labour Mayor of London’s rollout of the £12.50 daily charge has sparked a backlash from drivers and was blamed for the defeat in the Uxbridge by-election this summer.
Sir Keir has promised a moratorium on any new ULEZ-style plans for other British cities.
But First Minister Mark Drakeford pushed through the 20mph zones in the face of massive resistance from drivers.
PM Rishi Sunak has declared himself a champion of drivers after cutting fuel duty and pushing back the ban on fossil fuel-powered vehicles by five years.
