3.5 grade earthquake Mining giant BHP lost contact with underground workers after the quake struck and cut communication lines.
BHP’s Nickel West Site, near Leinster Western AustraliaGoldfields was hit by an earthquake yesterday at 3:24 pm.
The shaking caused by the earthquake caused a complete blackout at a nickel mine about 10 hours to the south. Perthand crippled the site.
BHP told Daily Mail Australia that it had lost contact with members of the underground team due to the power outage.
A BHP spokesperson said: “All team members are safe, uninjured and responsible.

A BHP spokesperson said tests were being run at the site to ensure the mine was safe and had no problems due to power outages.

A decade ago, the mining site was closed after a similar incident in which employees were immediately evacuated from the site and rushed to a safe room after a magnitude 3.7 earthquake.
The Goldfields region in the southeast corner of Western Australia has a higher earthquake risk than the rest of the state.
The town of Norseman, in the Goldfields-Esperance region, was declared the most unstable town in the country by Geoscience Australia in 2016.
