Green Day stun fans with a surprise performance in a tiny London pub as they play Walking Contradiction for first time since 2001

Green Day left fans stunned on Thursday night when they turned up for a surprise performance in a London pub.

The band –  Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, sent the crowd wild at The Marquis in Covent Garden ahead of their performance at The Electric Ballroom in Camden on Friday evening.

They played 13 tracks during the acoustic set, including hits such as American idiot and Basket Case, as well as Walking Contradiction, which hasn’t been heard live since 2001.

Teasing the show on an Instagram livestream earlier in the day, Tré said: ‘Right now, Green Day’s in London, looking to have us some fun then. If I were the fans, I wouldn’t make plans. Keep all your cellies plugged in.’

Sharing some photos to their Twitter afterwards, the band could be seen in the tiny pub that was packed out by fans.
