Gwyneth Paltrow ski trial musical at Pleasance Islington
Now, a theatre company has turned the Oscar-winner’s televised trial over a skiing accident into a comic musical with the audience as jury.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing is a tongue in cheek show by Awkward Productions, who describe themselves as ‘harbingers of queer chaos’ and whose previous show was Diana, The Untold and Untrue Story.
Fresh from playing the former Princess of Wales, Linus Karp will now snap on the Goop-founder and Oscar winner’s skis, with Joseph Martin as her on and off piste antagonist Terry Sanderson.
Featuring original songs by US musician Leland, who has worked on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Cher’s Christmas, the show runs at The Pleasance Islington in the run up to Christmas with the description: “She’s the Goop-founding, Door-Sliding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously-uncoupling Hollywood superstar. He’s a retired Optometrist from Utah. In 2016, they went skiing. On the slopes of Deer Valley, their worlds collided, and so did they – literally. Ouch. Seven years later in 2023, they went to court. Double ouch.”
The two week trial in March saw 76-year-old Sanderson, sue Paltrow for $3 million over a ski slope clash he claimed had left him with cracked ribs and a brain injury. Paltrow counter-sued saying it was he who caused the accident, although she admitted under oath that her own suffering added up to losing “a half day’s skiing.”
Paltrow won, and was awarded only $1 in damages, but it’s the audience who will decide the case at the Pleasance. Expect lots of business over Vagina candles and jade eggs.
Prepare to be Gooped.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing runs at The Pleasance in North Road, N7 from December 13-23.
