Network Rail has also warned that the number of services in between will be reduced and it will be congested. A devastating festive walkout.

Viana was surprised that her 71-year-old mother-in-law was so cramped that she had to sit on the floor for four hours and couldn’t go to the bathroom.

He feared what would happen if his family hadn’t brought their own drinks on board, as he hadn’t had the opportunity to travel by train to purchase water.

Towards the end of the trip, the experience got worse when a fellow passenger vomited next to a family member who hadn’t been able to go to the bathroom.

One passenger with two young children in a neighboring carriage took to Twitter to describe the trip as a “trip from hell” and sympathized with the tourists.

“We are a party of four from Brazil who decided to visit family in Guildford, London.

“Our family there suggested we go to Edinburgh.

“My family was scattered all over the train and the journey was terrible.

“Departure was delayed by two hours, taking five hours instead of four and a half hours.

“They treat their customers like livestock. For the entire journey, we had to sit on the floor between buses, even though we had reserved seats, and there were other passengers in the corridor.

He continued:

Tourists were thrilled to experience the beautiful Scottish capital, but despite having booked and reserved seats in November, they were 'treated like cattle' on a packed LNER train. Sadly shocked and disappointed.

“My mother-in-law was sitting on the floor on her bag the whole trip.

“Fortunately, we brought water, otherwise the situation could have been much worse.

“Not a single member of staff offered support or checked to see if anyone was in need, like my 71-year-old mother-in-law.

“Near the end of the trip, a teenager got sick and vomited near us too.”

The family is now recovering from the experience and Alexander says he will seek a refund from the company, but for now he is enjoying the sights of Edinburgh trying to get his vacation back on track.

LNER told MailOnline:

This comes after Conservative Stoke-on-Trent MP Joe Gideon said he was forced to sit on the floor of an Avanti West Coast train in November.

She said “every seat, people in the aisle and sitting on the floor like me was really unacceptable”.

Avanti West Coast has suspended trains since August, citing a “severe shortage” of drivers and an “unofficial strike”, with nearly all drivers now working overtime on holidays. are refusing to
