Marisa Abela, portraying Amy Winehouse, trades her sophisticated black gown for a red velvet mini-dress at the Back To Black premiere afterparty, where she is accompanied by the singer’s parents, Janis and Mitch
Marisa Abela, embodying Amy Winehouse, arrived at the Back To Black premiere afterparty in the company of the singer’s parents, Mitch and Janis, on Monday evening.
The 27-year-old actress, portraying the late star, swapped her elegant red carpet ensemble for a stylish velvet mini dress as she stepped into 100 Wardour Street in London’s Soho.
Her chic attire boasted glitzy buttons and puff sleeves, complemented by black tights and chunky platform heels. Despite her glossy raven locks styled in a voluminous backcombed fashion, it was a departure from Amy’s iconic towering beehive.
Marisa opted for understated glamorous makeup, featuring a smokey-eye, and accessorized with a novelty-style heart-shaped bag in red velvet.
Prior to the afterparty, Marisa dazzled in a black halter neck, floor-length gown with a sweeping fishtail train as she posed for photographers.
Accompanying her was co-star Jack O’Connell, 33, who portrays Amy’s late husband Blake Fielder-Civil. Blake, previously criticized for his role in Amy’s struggles with substance abuse, has acknowledged his regrets regarding their relationship.
Following the screening, Marisa and Jack joined Amy’s parents, Mitch and Janis, to commemorate the film’s impending release.
Back To Black, endorsed by Mitch, has faced criticism from the singer’s friends for its portrayal of her struggles with addiction and its depiction of her funeral.
The controversial biopic chronicles the life of the talented artist, who tragically passed away from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27 in 2011.
Despite the criticisms, Mitch and Janis presented a united front, sharing smiles during the event. Mitch, portrayed by Eddie Marsan in the film, exuded sophistication in a smart black suit, while Janis, portrayed by Juliet Cowan, looked radiant in a floral dress, navigating with the assistance of a frame due to her battle with multiple sclerosis.
In the film, Amy expresses her aspirations beyond music, longing for motherhood, and her tumultuous relationship with Blake inspires her iconic track Back To Black.
Last year, Blake reflected on their relationship, expressing remorse for their tumultuous past on what would have been Amy’s 40th birthday.
Despite controversy surrounding the film, Mitch’s endorsement, and scenes depicting Amy’s drug overdose filmed at her former flat, the biopic delves into the darker moments of Amy’s life, prompting mixed reactions from her inner circle.
Amy’s legacy endures, and while the film revisits her struggles, it also celebrates her remarkable talent and spirit, reminding audiences of her profound impact on music and culture.
