How to Throw Kids Birthday Parties at Home!
This Is Possible!
Kids’ birthday parties are supposed to be fun, right? So you can’t go wrong with having your child’s celebration at home. Moreover, it will save you time and money in the long run because there is less risk involved-especially for parents who want to avoid party messes!
So how does it work? Follow these steps below, and you’ll be well on your way to having a fantastic birthday at home.
The Most Vital Item to Consider When Planning a Children’s Birthday Party!
The most crucial element to consider when planning a kid’s birthday party is the type of birthday cake you will serve at the end of the night. Of course, you could do any food or drink, but never skip out on the birthday cake!
When it comes to picking the right kind, choose carefully. For example, if your child’s favorite meal consists of chicken tenders, consider serving them for their birthday meal. But, of course, you can also serve spaghetti or any other meal that they adore.
And of course, the cake is an essential part of the party too! The best choice for picking a type of cake is one with your child’s favorite cartoon character on top. For example, if your child loves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, choose a cake with one of them (or all four!) on top, and everyone will love it!
Once you have carefully planned out your meal and selected a cake, you can decorate for the party.
Step 1: Create a Birthday Party Budget
One of the most important things you must do before planning your child’s birthday party is to create a budget. Figure out how much money you can spend and stick to it! You don’t want to go overboard and end up paying more than you had intended. Once you have created a reasonable estimate of what everything will cost, add 30% on top of it.
This estimation is for any unforeseen costs that may come up. For example, if there are additional party guests who were not invited, or if your child invites some friends from school without your knowledge, you will need to account for the unexpected. This 30% addition will help you cover these types of things if they happen.
Step #2: Create a Guest List
Creating a guest list is essential for planning your child’s birthday party. You need to know how many people are coming so you can buy the right amount of food and drinks, etc. To figure out how many people are attending, have your child write down the names of all the kids that will be there, even if they are just friends or friends.
Step #3: Set the Party Date and Time
You want to make sure the party starts in the afternoon because this is when most kids will be free. However, make it early in the day because you don’t want children running out of energy when the cake comes out! Additionally, set an end time to prevent any parties from getting too rowdy and ensure that all parents are aware of when the party will be done so they can plan on picking their kids up.
How long should a child’s birthday celebration last?
It depends on how old your child is. When they are 2 or 3, the party should end between 3-5 PM. If your child is 4 or 5, it can go until 6 PM. Once they are six years old, you can keep the party going until 7 PM -just make sure all older siblings have somewhere else to be!
What about sleepovers?
If you want, you can have a sleepover, but be careful because this could get out of control very quickly. If your child is having a hard time sharing with others, you might not want to go through the trouble of hosting a sleepover. Additionally, parents need to know that other kids will be present before they agree to send their child over to your house.
Step #4: Decide on a Birthday Party Theme
Kids’ birthdays are a great excuse to have a party for all of their favorite things! You can serve themed food and drinks and even decorate the house in that theme. For example:
-Pirates: Serve nautical snacks like fish and chips and dip and drink lemonade while you imagine yourselves on the high seas; you can go one further and hire a hot tub; this will get you great parent points. Please find a local company, like us we used a company who employ hot tubs in kent; they delivered, set up and it was a party package, so perfect.
-Princesses: Serve pink or pastel-colored food, like mac ‘n’ cheese and fairy bread. Decorate the house in lots of princess garb!
-Superheroes: Serve superhero-themed snacks like fruit kabobs that look like they are made of steel and Capri Sun. You can also decorate with all of your child’s favorite comic book characters, like Superman or Wolverine.
Step #5: Create a timetable for the activities and events of the party.
Once you have created a guest list and made a budget for your child’s birthday party, the next thing you need to do is create an itemized schedule. You can plan most of the activities without too much complexity or confusion; it is only necessary to make sure every child has something to do at all times.
Crafts, Party Games, and Ideas for Children’s Activities
You can find lots of great crafts to do at a child’s birthday party in a book or on the internet. You could also create a simple scavenger hunt that the kids have to go on to get their gift! For example, you can give them clues about where something is hidden around the house, and they will appreciate the effort you put into the game.
- Play pass the parcel or pinata; everyone loves these games!
- Have a treasure hunt where they have to answer quiz questions about you and present clues that lead them to their gift under the stairs (or wherever)
- If you are comfortable with it, let them play outside for a bit and close the curtains for a “Space Party” where they can go on their mission to explore new worlds! For this, you will need glow sticks and black sheets.
- “Pirates of the Caribbean”-this is what we did as my son loves it again wrapped presents in bin bags with clues like an eye patch, a flag etc-and they get their “booty” when they get all the clues
- be creative; think outside the box! Many ideas on Pinterest or Google will inspire you. You can even have a themed birthday cake and matching balloons!
Step #6: Organize the Birthday Party Information (tickets, decorations, food, favors)
Once you have decided on everything, it is time to determine how you will let your guests know about your child’s birthday party. You can email all invitations or send them through phone calls and text messages.
You should use streamers, balloons, and colorful tablecloths for decorations if needed. If there will be a lot of kids, you should make sure the balloons are tied down to chairs or something sturdy. Cake decorations can include candles, sprinkles, and colored frosting!
For party favors, most parents like to give out candy or small toys that fit within your child’s theme (like a pirate would receive an eye patch). You could also go with stickers, tattoos, or personalized bookmarks.
