Police are warning people between Wilson Road and Jackson Road to stay indoors.

The riots are believed to have erupted after a nearby crash.

A police spokesman said: “Just after 6pm tonight, we received a call that a serious traffic accident had occurred on Snowden Road.

“Police responded to the clash, but by the time officers arrived, a clash had already taken place.

“Tonight’s crash needs to be effectively investigated by forensic scientists and professional staff.

“Police officers remain on site to deal with the large-scale disruption.

“Again, we ask that the people involved and those who are monitoring them leave immediately.

“We are aware of the concerns of our neighbors, so please stay indoors.”
