An East London court has heard that Barr began working as a personal trainer in November 2018, when Barrymore Asset Management’s 3,400-home Royal Wharf complex opened.
Baa “heard” Liliane Gómez (pictured) talking to a friend in broken Portuguese.Court said the phrase likely meant ‘black people, go back to Africa’
At the hearing, he was said to be “popular” and had trained the likes of Love Island stars Sophie Piper, Tasha Ghouley, and Andrew Le Page to appear on television.
He was photographed on Instagram training Ms. Piper, the younger sister of TV host Rochelle Humes.
But when Liliane Gomez joined the business, she spent the weekends with other instructors, despite an “existing arrangement” with Baa’s former boss that allowed her to spend time with her daughter. claimed to work in the same way as
The court also heard that Gomez gave a white gym instructor medical leave, but denied a similar request from Baa.
In August 2020, another black colleague of Baah’s complained to Gomes about working alone on weekends.
When challenged about this, Ms. Gomez said “loudly” and “I don’t need to talk to people like you,” and saw Ms. Baa making the comment, the panel heard.
Later that month, Mr. Baa “heard” Ms. Gomez speaking to a friend in broken Portuguese.
Gomez denied using any racial slurs, but before admitting she likely said “Vai para,” come back.
The court said the words probably meant ‘Negroes, go back to Africa’ and Baa was ‘deeply hurt by it’.

His boss, Lillian Gomez, joined the business.Barr, in a photo of him with his partner Kate, works weekends like any other instructor, she claimed.
Baa had a string of celebrity clients, including many Love Island contestants.
Baah resigned in April 2021, filing a complaint, claiming he was the victim of “blatant racism,” and failing to get Jim to agree to flexible work.
But the court heard that he had agreed to continue working part-time and that Gomez had agreed to go on maternity leave.
The court concluded that Baa was black of African ethnicity and had successfully filed allegations of direct racism, harassment, and victimization.
Employment Judge Julia Jones concluded that Ms. Gomez’s weekend roster treatment not only resulted in “demeaning” talk to Baa, but also “unfavorable treatment.”
His refusal to take paid time off for medical care was considered racist and gave time off to a white employee because there was “no proper and credible explanation” for her decision.
Regarding the “Blackie” comment, the judge continued:
“Although he could not speak Portuguese, some of the phrases he heard reasonably believed his ethnicity was being referred to by Ms. Gómez to her friend in a negative way. I was allowed to.”
The court concluded that Baa had successfully asserted direct racism, harassment, and victimization as a black African ethnicity.
Further hearings will be held to determine the amount of compensation that will be paid to him.
He has since appeared on the TV quiz show Family Fortunes, won £10,000 with his relatives and now works as an online and celebrity trainer.
