Served as over 40,000 members of R.Maritime/Transportation (RMT) Network Rail’s union and 15 rail companies are set to pull out over disputes over employment, wages and conditions.

RMT general secretary ahead of Saturday’s industrial action Mick Lynch He wrote to Secretary of Transportation Anne-Marie Trevelyan, urging him to “unshackle” the railroad companies and reach a settlement with the railroad union.

Writes: “Following your comments at last weekend’s Conservative Party conference where you said there was a ‘need to have an arrangement’ between the railway unions and the railway companies regarding the ongoing labor dispute, I am writing this is writing
“We also look forward to reaching a negotiated settlement between RMT and the employer.
“To achieve this, however, your government must unshackle the train operators who are now depriving you of that power directly from yourself.”
In response to Mr. Lynch’s letter, transportation bureau (DfT) issued a statement urging union leaders to “cooperate with, not against” employers.
Added: “Our railroads are in dire need of modernization, but every strike is to punish the very people who claim the union will stand up and keep passengers away.
“We urge union bosses to reconsider this divisive action and instead work with employers to agree on a new path, rather than against them.”
Passengers are advised to check National Rail Inquiries or the train operator’s website for the latest information.
Saturday ticket holders whose travel has been canceled or changed are entitled to a refund. Alternatively, you can travel on another date until Tuesday, October 11th.
Season ticket holders are entitled to compensation through a late repayment scheme.
