The top favourites for the FA Cup title

The FA Cup will properly kick-off this weekend, when teams from the Championship and the Premier League join the competition. Together with betting expert Betsjekk.com we’ve had a look at the odds from Unibet to find the main favourites to lift the trophy at Wembley Stadium in mid-May.

Tottenham (15.00)

The Lilywhites are among the most successful clubs in the history of the FA Cup, with their 8 wins being third-most. However, their last win came all the way back in 1991, while they have stumbled four times at the semi final hurdle in the last 12 seasons. New coach Antonio Conte won this competition with Chelsea back in 2018, can the Italian help lead the club to its first silverware since winning the 2008 League Cup?

Tottenham have seen an upswing in form since Conte took over the reins, where they are unbeaten in 9 games in domestic tournaments. The third round sees League One strugglers Morecambe making the trip to London, meaning they should be able to negotiate the first hurdle this season without too many problems.

Manchester United (9.00)

The Red Devils have won the FA Cup a total of 12 times, and a 13th title would put them just one behind Arsenal. They have been moderately successful in the competition in recent years, winning in 2016, losing the final in 2018, and making it to the semis in 2020. Will Wembley again be within reach under the guidance of interim manager Ralf Rangnick?

While Man United definitely will look to challenge for the title, their third round draw offers a potential stumbling block in Premier League rival Aston Villa. Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will for sure hope to knock out his old arch nemesis in the early stages.

Liverpool (8.50)

Liverpool have won both a Champions League and a (long-awaited) Premier League title under Jürgen Klopp, but the FA Cup has not been a happy hunting ground for the German manager. Their best performance came in 2020, when they were knocked out in the fifth round by Chelsea. In fact, Liverpool has not won the FA Cup since 2006, and their last final appearance was in 2012.

Is this the year when The Reds and Klopp finally stamp their authority on the tournament? They can not have any complaints with the third round draw, which sees League One side Shrewsbury traveling to Anfield.

Chelsea (7.00)

Chelsea have been one of the top performers in the FA Cup the last few seasons, with no less than four final appearances in the last five editions. However, only one of them has seen them lift the trophy, and they rather surprisingly failed in the final last year with a 1-0 loss to Leicester. Should they make it to a third straight final this year it would be the first time since Arsenal in the early 2000s that a team has achieved that feat.

The Blues have struggled for form lately, but their third round draw should see them return to winning ways with Chesterfield, one of the three remaining non-league sides, heading to Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City (4.50)

The Citizens had lofty dreams of achieving a historic quadruple last season, but the FA Cup eluded them yet again as they fell to Chelsea in the semis (who would also go on to beat them in the CL final). It was the second year in a row where they fell at the penultimate hurdle, and somewhat surprisingly they have only lifted the FA Cup once under Pep Guardiola.

Man City are unquestionably the strongest team in the competition, and as they are looking increasingly likely to defend their PL title it could potentially open it up for them to make a deep cup run this season. They are the only team of the big favourites that start the campaign away from home, which sees them take on League Two promotion hopefuls Swindon at the County Ground on Friday. Can the Robins start off the third round with an amazing upset?
